The River Oaks Chamber Orchestra from Houston, Texas has commissioned NYSB trombonist Dorothy Gates to write a Trombone Concerto for their principal trombonist, Thomas Hulten. Thomas and Dorothy met while playing and touring with Spiritual to the Bone. He is a Swedish Salvationist living and working in Houston with his family. The world premier is Saturday 9th April in Houston, Texas.
The piece is based on the life and writings of Dag Hammarskjold – UN Secretary General 1953 – 1961. The title of the piece is, “Servant of Peace – Concerto for Trombone & Chamber Orchestra.”
