MAY 3, 2023 – The NYSB was pleased to be back at the Garden City Cathedral of the Incarnation on Long Island, NY for the annual Nassau County Youth Enrichment Concert. Hosted by the Greater New York Division, this annual event serves as a fundraiser for several youth enrichment programs and most notably, helping kids go to Star Lake Camp each summer.

The NYSB is always to happy to participate in this event as the seemingly endless reverberance of the Cathedral provides a unique acoustic. With several connections between the NYSB and the community this event serves, it always turns out to be a blessed event.

This year, the NYSB was happy to welcome the fantastic Westbury Corps Band, many of whom have been part of the NYSB Future All Stars Program, as they presented a mini concert as preliminary music to the event. This group has grown leaps and bounds over the last several years and there might not be a more enthusiastic corps band in the Salvation Army world!

The NYSB presented a varied program of older and newer music ranging from traditional hymn tune arrangements to latin infused dance pieces with lots of percussion! Major works of the evening were Andrew Wainwrights fantastic ‘Rhapsody on St Francis’ and Kevin Norbury’s scintillating ‘Truth Aflame.’ Another highlight was a beautiful Flugel solo by Westbury band member James Elmonus, accompanied by the NYSB

After several awards and words of recognition to various donors and board members, everyone was treated to a high energy dance performance by the Hempstead Dance Team. Undoubtedly, the highlight of the evening was when one of the members of the dance team stepped forward to present an absolutely stunning operatic aria. The amount of sound emanating from this unassuming little girl was astounding and brought the entire crowd to a well-deserved standing ovation.

Another successful Nassau County concert in the books and everyone left with hearts full and overflowing.
