REVIEW

When considering this new recording from the New York Staff Band, there are many exciting aspects that are worth highlighting. We are privileged to feature as soloist, Salvationist Philip Cobb, who is an extraordinary trumpet and cornet player known all over the world. This recording features an epic work from the pen of Dr. Dorothy Gates, “The Glory of Jehovah,” which has already had a profound debut in Canada earlier this year.

This recording also contains many wonderful new compositions from established and rising stars in the brass band world, including a new piece by Tom Davoren, “Proclamation.”

A proclamation is defined as “a clear declaration of something.” Davoren’s piece, featuring the hymn “Stand up, stand up for Jesus,” is designed to proclaim, when it’s used at the beginning of each of our programs, and at the start of this recording, that Jesus Christ is Lord and that we, as the New York Staff Band, will stand up for Jesus.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus! ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner, it must not suffer loss:
From vict’ry unto vict’ry, His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished, and Christ is Lord indeed.

We want to use our abilities and talents to spread salvation through Jesus Christ as far as we are able, by the grace of God. We proclaim Jesus Christ: “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 (ESV)
